Sample Outline for Coaching Workshop on “Personal Definition of Success”

Workshop Outline

What’s your personal definition of success? How do you identify the key relationships and life activities that are most important to you and the stakeholders within your network? How do you identify your client’s personal definitions of success to move them towards important financial decisions? How do you answer important questions like:

• What’s really important to you?

• Why are you so distracted?

• Are you able to make choices about your financial affairs that align with your values?

• Did you know that your personal definition of success can help you focus on desired results?

You will participate in a three-part activity:

1. Work in groups of 5 to hone your three personal definitions of success to point of resonation.

2. See a coaching demonstration to show how the definition fast tracks you to a decision.

3.  Connect this learning with the work you want to do with clients.

Pre-Work:

Prepare a draft of your three personal definitions of success. Use the following questions to help you with your thought process:

What makes a day really great for you?

When do you feel at your best?

What brings meaning to your life?

What contribution do you want to make in the world?

What would you like people to say about you after you’re gone?

Your goal is to identify internal, personal benchmarks rather than the more typical external performance measures. The external performance measures come and go. These internal definitions of success, while they may change over time, will be fairly consistent because they are both personal and fundamental to you. They are 3 golden threads in the fabric of your life.

Here are a few examples of personal definitions of success:

I know I am being successful when I get out of bed feeling excited about the day ahead.
I know I am being successful by how available I am to attend my children’s events.
I know I am being successful when I feel comfortable turning down new clients.
I know I am being successful by how often I take vacations.
I know I am being successful by how rarely I rush.
I know I am being successful by how many times I laugh each day.

Write your three personal definitions of success below:

I know I am being successful by…

I know I am being successful by…
